I think there are two very specific reasons by Jesus sent his followers out 2×2.
Another word that you could use for influence here is power. Two are far more effective than one. A lone ranger can only accomplish so much on his or her own. Two people together can back each other up and support each other’s witness or testimony.
Jesus himself assures us of his presence in Matthew 18:20 where he says, “Where two or three people gather in my name, I am there with them.” Talk about a powerful promise!
If you want to have an effective disability ministry you will need a team of people. A team starts with having more than just yourself. Find someone who shares the same passion as you, someone who can push you, someone who can hold you accountable, someone you can trust. Once you have your plus one you are ready to hit the ground running.
God knows that we all work better with an established support system around us.
Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 teaches us that “Two people are better than one. They can help each other in everything they do. Suppose either of them falls down. Then the one can help the other one up.”
You probably hear this passage most often during wedding ceremonies. Regardless of the relationship, this same principle holds true.
There will be times in your outreach to your disability community where you will no doubt need picked up and encouraged. Things will not always be easy. Things may not happen as fast as you want them to. You will run into roadblocks. It is in these times that you will need encouragement from someone else. Someone who will remind that it is worth it. Remind you that you must keep pushing forward. Remind you to be patient. Remind you to get creative and find ways to overcome those obstacles.
