Celebrating a Major Milestone: Welcome to the 50/50 Club!

In a world overflowing with bad news, I wanted to take a moment to stop and celebrate some incredibly good news—because God is doing something amazing through our ministry.

As many of you know, I love sports and statistics. In the 135-year history of Major League Baseball, no player had ever achieved a 50/50 season—that is, 50 home runs and 50 stolen bases—until Shohei Ohtani made history in 2024. He did something no one had done before.

Hold onto that 50/50 number.

When I think about Ability Ministry, I’ve always viewed it as having two arms. The first arm is our residential ministry—a strong, faithful work that God began through Dr. Jim Peirson in the mid-1980s. Just a few years later, in 1989, Rhonna McBride joined our team. To say she has served our staff and residents faithfully for decades would be a huge understatement.

But for a while, the second arm of our ministry—our evangelical outreach to churches—was missing. That changed when God gave our second Executive Director, Gary Spangler, a bold vision: to take the Good News of Jesus beyond our homes and into the global disability community. He stepped out in faith to raise the funds needed to bring Jason Morrison and me onto the team to rebuild this part of the ministry.

When we came on board in 2017, there wasn’t even a functioning website. We were handed a blank canvas and a big calling: to equip churches around the world to reach people with disabilities for Jesus.

So, we got to work—building resources, offering free consultations, and celebrating each new church we served. Each time we reached a new state or country, Jason would color it in on the map. Slowly, the map filled. But for years, Hawaii, Rhode Island, and Utah remained blank.

Now back to the 50/50 number.

After seven years, we had resourced churches in 49 states and over 50 countries. Utah was the final missing piece. Over the past several months, we intentionally reached out to nearly 20 churches across the state. And on the morning of July 14, 2025, we received a resource download from Vernal Christian Church in Vernal, Utah.

We made it!

We’ve officially joined the 50/50 Club—resourcing churches in all 50 states and in more than 50 countries around the world.

This is a historic milestone for our ministry. To my knowledge, there may be only one or two other disability ministry organizations with that kind of global reach.

Throughout Scripture, when God’s people reached major moments, He called them to stop, worship, and give thanks:

  • Noah built an altar after the flood (Genesis 8).
  • Moses worshipped at Mount Sinai (Exodus 24).
  • Joshua set up memorial stones after crossing the Jordan (Joshua 4).
  • David danced before the Lord when the Ark returned to Jerusalem (2 Samuel 6).

So today, let’s do the same. Let’s stop and thank God for His blessing—and for using ordinary people like us to carry the extraordinary message of Jesus to the disability community around the world. It’s truly humbling.

That said…

God is NOT done.
We are NOT done.
Until every disability community in every corner of the globe hears the Good News of Jesus—we will NOT stop.
